Mariel Berry, Board Co-Chairman
San Diego County Bicycle Coalition
Mariel Berry has nearly ten years of experience working and volunteering in the nonprofit sector. As a Washington, D.C. native, Mariel moved to San Diego almost four years ago for an Americorps Promise Fellow position at Volunteer San Diego. During her year of service, she coordinated new service opportunities for youth across San Diego County, and helped develop a service and leadership club model for youth groups across the nation. She is currently the Development Officer for Arts & Culture Initiatives at San Diego State University. She is an active volunteer at a variety of community organizations including, Girls on the Run, and is a board member for the San Diego Young Nonprofit Professionals Network. Mariel is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and the Council for Advancement and Support of Secondary Education (CASE).
Mariel holds a B.A. in Art History from St. Mary's College of Maryland.

Jaci Feinstein, Board Co-Chairman
Right Hand Events
An accomplished professional with 7 years of experience working within the for-profit and nonprofit sectors, Jaci obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Business Administration from Carnegie Mellon University. She has worked for large corporations such as Proctor & Gamble, L’Oreal, and General Motors, in addition to Volunteer San Diego – a San Diego based nonprofit. Currently, Jaci is a Meeting and Events Consultant with Right Hand Events and a Senior Project Manager for Best Worlds Web. Her background in the engineering field, business world, and nonprofit sector give her valuable insight in managing programs and events specifically tailored to a wide variety of needs.
Jaci is an active volunteer at a variety of community organizations including the Young Adult Division of the Jewish Federation, Social Enterprise Success and the Carnegie Mellon Admissions Council. She is also an AmeriCorps Alumnus and an avid soccer player.

Jessica Rodgers, Board Treasurer
211 San Diego
Jessica Rodgers is the Communications and Development Coordinator at 211 San Diego. Jessica has been participating with YNPN San Diego in some capacity since March 2009. Jessica worked as Development Associate at the San Diego Public Library Foundation during 2010, prior to which she held the position of Executive Assistant at 211 San Diego. She first joined the San Diego nonprofit community when she worked at Volunteer San Diego as the Program Associate.
Jessica earned a BA with Honors in Sociology at Scripps College. In addition to nonprofit work in San Diego, Jessica's held positions with Jumpstart and Oxfam America. She holds a teaching credential in social science and has experience working one-to-one with students who have dyslexia and ADHD. In her spare time, Jessica enjoys writing for her food blog, baking, cooking and reading books related to how the brain works and, of course, books related to food in any capacity.

Joe Buehrle, Board Secretary
Healthy Start - Military Family Resource Center
Joe Buehrle currently serves on the staff of the Social Advocates for Youth, San Diego. He is the Program Coordinator for the Healthy Start- Military Family Resource Center. Joe relocated from Michigan in the fall of 2008, bringing over ten years of experience in the nonprofit sector. His career includes positions in workforce development, child welfare, mental health, and grassroots community organizing. Joe is particularly passionate about multicultural, interfaith, and inter-group relations.
Joe received a Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan with a minor in Management. There as a Community Based Initiative Fellow he concentrated his study on community building and social systems. Published work includes the article “Just Us” or Justice, shared in the Commission for Social Justice Educators June 2008 newsletter The Voice.

Efrem Bycer, Professional Development Committee Chair
City of San Diego
Having grown up in Seattle, Little Rock, and Vermont, Efrem now lives in Downtown San Diego and spends his free time training for half-marathons, brewing his own beer, and enjoying the region's beautiful weather. He currently works as a Performance Auditor with the City of San Diego where he works with City departments to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of local government operations.
Efrem is passionate about improving the local and global community and dedicates time to building nonprofit organizations' ability to achieve their missions, particularly through better board governance and strategic planning. In addtion to serving on the YNPN Board and its Professional Devolopment and Board Development Committees, Efrem is a member of the NHA HeadStart Policy Council and the Board Chairman of the Congo Leadership Initiative. He is also a 2012 New Leaders Council Fellow.
Prior to moving to San Diego, Efrem helped develop a long-term recovery plan for New Orleans' Upper and Lower Ninth Ward and consulted for the City of Syracuse to improve its neighborhood planning program. A member of the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity, Efrem served on its National Council from 2008 to 2010. He received his bachelors degree in Urban and Regional Studies from Cornell University and his Master of Public Administration degree from the Maxwell School of Syracuse University.

Lisa Farnan
Salk Institute
Lisa Farnan is the Executive Coordinator for Development at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies. In this role, she assists the Vice President for Development & Communications and enjoys being involved in a variety of functions including event planning, prospect management, donor relations and stewardship. Prior to working at the Salk Institute, Lisa managed the HR, Marketing, & Fundraising professional programs at UCSD Extension, which sparked her interest in fundraising. Lisa is also a former high school religion teacher, teaching courses in Social Justice, Morality and Introduction to Christianity at a private high school in Orange County.
A southern California native, Lisa attended the University of San Diego where she earned a BA in Theology & Religious Studies (focused on social justice), and a BA in Psychology. She studied abroad with Semester at Sea, through which she traveled around the world on a ship, visiting 10 countries, experiencing new cultures and learning about global justice issues. Lisa also earned a Professional Certificate in Fundraising & Development, and a Certificate in Meeting Management & Special Event Planning at UCSD Extension. In addition to serving on the Board and Fundraising Committee for YNPN San Diego, she is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and the Council for Advancement and Support of Secondary Education (CASE).
In her free time, Lisa enjoys gardening, traveling to new places, exploring new restaurants and enjoying the San Diego craft beer scene.

Malia Mullen, Outreach Chair
United Way of San Diego County
Malia Mullen is a Development Executive with United Way of San Diego County. This role includes managing an assigned portfolio of 5 industries and about 250 companies within San Diego County that run internal United Way workplace giving campaigns. Additionally, Malia is responsible for business development, co-coordinating special events and the campaign coordinator trainings, and building the electronic giving sites for companies to use during the workplace giving campaigns. Prior to her role at United Way of San Diego County, Malia began her career in administration and eventually public relations in Washington, DC and most recently worked in account management and marketing/sales for a for-profit organization in Seattle.
Malia has lived all over the US and internationally, but calls Seattle “home” having spent the majority of her time growing up there. She graduated from Central Washington University with BAs of Philosophy and Religious Studies, after spending her senior year studying abroad in Prague. Malia went on to obtain her MBA in Global Leadership and Management from City University of Seattle. She relocated to the San Diego area in January of 2010 to “start over” and found in the non-profit world the career she’d been searching for, but continues to find any and every opportunity to travel as much as possible as it is her main passion in life.

Laura Purdom, Fundraising Chair

Laura Purdom currently works at St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center (SMSC), a day program for Adults with Developmental Disabilities. As the assistant to the Executive Director she is involved in all aspects of the organization, including operations management, event planning, marketing, board coordination, safety, assisting in the grant process and strategic planning. Prior to working at SMSC, Laura worked in the “corporate world” in a variety of fields, but most recently title and escrow services for new housing developments. During that time she was an Ambassador for the San Diego Building Industry Association.
Laura has a B.A. in Psychology from the University of California, San Diego. She is a graduate of the 2010 East County Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program and currently serves on their Marking and Recruiting Committee. When she has time, Laura enjoys volunteering at various organizations, cooking and reading a good book.

Danielle Reyes-Acosta, Communications Chair
Metric Systems Corporation
Danielle Reyes-Acosta is co-founder of a Carlsbad-based interactive design firm, where she interfaces with designers and developers to help non-profit, government, and corporate clients form sustainable brand identities. She also consults with Metric Systems Corporation, a Vista-based telecommunications company, assisting in their development of an international export sales campaign. In both capacities, she has been responsible for procuring and facilitating projects that encompass campaign management, web development, identity formation, and interactive application design.
Danielle has a B.A. from the University of California, Santa Barbara in Global Studies, where she focused largely on international human rights issues. A longtime veteran of non-profit work, she served as Fundraising Chair of the International Convention on Human Rights to hold Santa Barbara’s inaugural Human Rights Day Festival in 2006. Studying abroad in Barcelona, Spain in 2004-2005, Danielle also worked with Amnesty International at a time when the Darfur conflict inspired heightened international outcry. While at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), she continued her studies in Spanish (Castellano), Catalan, and French, and travelled throughout Spain and France to hone her skills.
A Southern California native, Danielle enjoys surfing, snowboarding, being outdoors, and giving back to her community. In addition to serving on YNPN’s Advisory Board, Danielle is YNPNSD’s Communications Committee Co-Chair, and also volunteers for the Member Relations and Fundraising Committees.
