Events / Programs

By sharing information, connecting individuals and building skills of emerging leaders, YNPN helps to move individuals across the continuum from emerging to seasoned leaders, ensuring San Diego's nonprofit sector has the leadership necessary to continue meeting the community's needs.

YNPN San Diego does this by:
  • Hosting quarterly Meet & Greets that create a professional community of nonprofit emerging leaders by providing a safe space to connect and network.
  • Organizing various Professional Development Gatherings that bring nonprofit emerging leaders and season leaders in dialogue with each other around career and sector development/pathing.
Have an idea for a Meet & Greet or Professional Development Gathering?  Share it with us!

Fundraising Topic: The Art of Asking

A common struggle for nonprofits is finding a consistent source of revenue. For many, that source will come from donors - both individuals and corporate groups. Such situations involve many details, including who your audience is, what their motives are, and what the existing relationship is like. Being able to navigate the waters of doing a funding ask is a critical skill that emerging nonprofit professionals often lack, and it's a skill that's difficult to refine without practice.
This month, join YNPN and Dana Levin as they provide guidance on building confidence, learning techniques, understanding the skill that goes with building relationships and asking for money from potential donors. This workshop will feature a brief presentation followed by role-play scenarios to help you practice. You'll be given the opportunity to evaluate various situations and act out how to approach them, as if you were actually in that setting. It will prove to be an evening that is informative, practical, and fun!

Dana Levin, a San Diego native, is a highly knowledgeable, innovative non-profit professional with over ten years of fundraising, marketing, and sales experience. She holds dual BA degrees from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and an MBA in Non-Profit Management and a Master's in Jewish Communal Studies from American Jewish University. She was selected to be a FEREP scholar and was selected as one of the “best and brightest” in the nonprofit industry by the organization JFNA, Jewish Federations of North America. She has managed multimillion dollar campaigns and events for organizations of all sizes including the United Jewish Federation of San Diego County, Hillel at the University of Florida, the Los Angeles Jewish Federation, and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. She currently is the Assistant Director of Annual Giving at Jewish Family Service where she has strategically reimagined the donor relationship management system and produces all of the organization’s major fundraising events including the Heart & Soul Gala which raises upwards of $900,000 and the Ruby Schulman Memorial Golf Tournament.

It's time to find your sweet spot! No I'm not talking about dessert... I'm talking about what happens when you combine your head with your heart to find your hustle. In the book "Work on Purpose" we are going to dive into various stories of Echoing Green Fellows ( who are following their dreams and spending their days doing what they really love (aka working).

Each of these individuals is taking something that that has piqued their passion, combined with what their technical strengths are to do something to make the world that we live in a better place. This wasn't something that happened overnight - for some it was weeks, months and even years to realize what they were truly meant to be doing.

Let's take some time to figure out where your head is, where your heart is and what your hustle is. If time permits, a short exercise may accompany our discussion so we can all walk away with a better sense of our own purpose so that we can all be on our way to discovering our hustle.

The Kindle edition is less than $5. Get it here. It's a quick read that you'll be able to finish in one sitting!
