Join us for our YNPN SD Book Club this month, where we'll be wrapping up the year by discussing the four impulses that are shaping the future of nonprofit America. They are: 1) voluntarism, 2) professionalism, 3) civic activism, and 4) commercialism. These may sound all-too-familiar since many of the organizations we volunteer with and work for are already struggling with the conflicting pressures that come from being guided by multiple impulses.
We'll be reading an article by Lester M. Salamon, Director of the Center for Civil Society Studies at The Johns Hopkins University that dives into how these four impulses will do everything from affect the roles that nonprofits play to the strategies they use to do their work.
You can check it out here: https://nonprofitquarterly.org/2015/10/12/the-four-impulses-of-nonprofits-and-what-they-each-create/.
Come ponder possibilities and vent your concerns with other young professionals. We'll be providing yummy food to nourish this great conversation!
